Understanding the terms and conditions is crucial information to grasp before reserving gorilla safaris in Rwanda. Here’s a comprehensive guide to Rwanda gorilla booking and permit terms:
Valid Passport:
Clients booking gorilla permits for Rwanda must provide a passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended travel dates for the gorilla tracking experience. A copy of the valid passport is required before making payments.
24-Hour Payment Period:
Upon safari confirmation, clients are expected to make prompt payments for gorilla permits, as they cannot be held due to being sold by the government of Rwanda through the Rwanda Development Board.
Age Limit for Trekking:
The age limit for gorilla tracking in Rwanda is 15 years. Ensure all travelers are 15 years and above before booking gorilla permits.
Maximum of 8 Tourists:
As part of national conservation policy, only eight people are allowed to trek each family of mountain gorillas daily in Volcanoes National Park.
Filming Permits:

Equipment Restrictions:
Certain equipment, like drones, may require clearance from the Rwanda Ministry of Defence upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. Contact us for the current terms and conditions for importing equipment to Rwanda.

Gorilla tracking in Rwanda is a physically demanding activity. Ensure you are in good physical condition before traveling for this experience.
Hour with the Mountain Gorillas:
Rwanda gorilla permits allow clients strictly one hour with the mountain gorillas after finding them in the rainforest of Volcanoes National Park.
Health and Sickness:
Clients displaying signs of communicable diseases will not be allowed to trek mountain gorillas to protect the gorillas from potential human diseases.
Languages Widely Spoken:
Rwanda predominantly speaks Kinyarwanda and French, but English is widely spoken in tourism hubs by guides and receptionists. Be informed before traveling to Rwanda.
Gorilla Permits Transfer:
Gorilla permits in Rwanda can be transferred to another holder if an official letter with a clear reason is submitted to the Rwanda Development Board.
No Refund Policy:
Unfortunately, Rwanda gorilla permits are non-refundable, emphasizing the commitment once the permit is acquired.
Best Time to Visit Rwanda:
While Rwanda welcomes tourism year-round, the optimal months are June to August and December to February. The rainy season in March-May and September-November doesn’t last the entire day, allowing clients ample time to visit mountain gorillas throughout the year.
