In Uganda, the savannah national parks are Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, and Lake Mburo National Park. In Rwanda, games drives are only done in Akagera National Park which has opportunities of sighting the different animals while in the comfort of the safari cars.

Game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park

The Kasenyi, North Kazinga and Ishasha plains offer guaranteed game viewing of four of the big five of Africa. On the Kasenyi route or tail is the best of all trails in Queen Elizabeth National Park offering you volumes of Uganda Kobs and Lions that prey on them. The Ishasha sector trail is popularly known for the tree climbing lions often sighted resting in fig trees. The trail will offer you sights of other wildlife like buffaloes, Warthogs, Elephants, Topi’s, Hippos and many more. The Kazinga Channel trail prides of the volumes of Hippo’s seen at a time and the birdlife on the channel. All combined, Queen Elizabeth National Park will offer you most of the wildlife in Africa in one place apart from the Rhinos.

Game drives in Murchison Falls National Park

This is the largest of all the parks in Uganda and popularly known for Murchison falls where the Nile water squeezes its self in a narrow gorge of 7 meters forming the falls. Game viewing is designated in three areas that is the Delta, Buligi peninsula and southern sector known as the heart of Murchison.

The Delta area will offer you sights of lions waiting for prey as they cross to buligi peninsular to drink water. The Uganda Kobs, Hartebeest and have always be prey for these animals for over the years.

The Buligi Peninsular is a collection of most of the wildlife in search for drinking water at the Victoria Nile through lake Albert. You will see huge numbers of elephants, giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, lions and leopards. Buligi peninsular is where the game tracks converge and the Nile flows North to lake Albert and a stopover for refreshments and viewing of the water birds.

Hot Air Balloon Safari happens in Murchison falls at the Paraa area where guests get to view wildlife gem in air. The activity takes 10 people at a go and costs $380 per person.

Heart of Murchison is the most popular place for game viewing and starts at the Rabongo road into the heart of the park. The huge numbers of Ugandan Kobs and Lions have also settled in this area because of the prey. In 2016, 15 giraffes were translocated in the area and now they are spotted in the area.

Game drives in Lake Mburo National Park

This is the smallest park in Uganda and it’s close to the capital Kampala city and tourist with limited time can have a chance to view wildlife on a 1-day trip. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for game viewing and drives. Most of the wildlife is concentrated on the Nshara sector where you will have huge numbers of Zebras, Antelopes, Topi’s, Buffaloes, Impala’s and elands. The Senga gate sector is known for viewing wildlife on a boat cruise where you will see hippos, Crocodiles and other water birds.

Night game drives are also in this park and offer you a chance to view nocturnal wildlife not seen during day like Wild dog, Jackals, Bush baby, Leopard, Pottos. The activity starts at 6:30pm- 8:00pm Using a night flash light and escorted by a ranger guide. The UWA car for a night game drive costs $90.

Game drives in Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the best and remote parks in Uganda to view wildlife gem in huge numbers. Game drives take place in the areas of Narus Valley and Kidepo valley areas for spectacular gem in the park.

Narus Valley trail is where the wildlife is more active in the park and game drives start at 6am and 4pm. The trail is a water spot for most of the wildlife in the park and they all collect in this place. You will view Buffalos, Lions, Uganda Kobs, Waterbucks, Antelopes, Elephants, Giraffes and the only place where Ostriches are found.

Kidepo valley trail has less wildlife but big on scenic beauty through Kanangorok Hot springs through the incredible landscapes. These include the Kidepo River and Morungule Mountain range. This area provides you views of the rare Ostrich bird in Uganda and other bird species.
