Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick-up from Kigali and Transfer to Bukavu – Congo
Your journey begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Kigali, Rwanda. After a friendly safari briefing from your driver-guide, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through the Rwandan countryside, heading southwest towards the Rusizi border post near Cyangugu.
The journey takes approximately 6 hours, with plenty of beautiful views along the way—rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and lakeside towns. Once you cross the border into Congo, you’ll proceed to Bukavu, a charming town located on the southern shores of Lake Kivu and the gateway to Kahuzi Biega National Park.
Arrive in Bukavu in the afternoon, check in to your lodge, and enjoy dinner while preparing for the next day’s exciting gorilla trekking experience.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park
After an early breakfast at your lodge, you’ll set off for Kahuzi Biega National Park, where your once-in-a-lifetime adventure begins. At the park headquarters, you’ll receive a briefing from the park rangers and be assigned a gorilla family group.
The Eastern Lowland gorillas are larger and bulkier than their mountain cousins, and they tend to live in bigger family groups. The trekking can take between 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas, but the reward is well worth the effort. Once you find them, you’ll have a full hour to observe these majestic creatures up close—watching their behavior, photographing them, and soaking in the moment.
After the trek, return to your hotel in Bukavu for a relaxed afternoon and dinner.

Day 3: Return to Kigali – End of the Tour
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge before checking out. Your driver will then begin the return journey to Kigali, following the same scenic route back through the Rusizi border. Along the way, you’ll have a chance to stop for photos, grab some souvenirs, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings one last time.
You’ll arrive in Kigali in the afternoon or evening, depending on your schedule. You can be dropped off at your hotel for post-tour accommodation or at Kigali International Airport if you’re catching a flight out.
