Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara – Scenic Drive & Afternoon Game Drive
Your Masai Mara safari begins early in the morning after breakfast. Meet your professional driver-guide at your hotel or the airport for a short briefing, then set off on a scenic drive through Kenya’s beautiful countryside. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley, one of the most dramatic geological features in the world, with a quick stop at a viewpoint for photo opportunities.
Continue through traditional Maasai lands before arriving at your camp or lodge near the Masai Mara National Reserve in time for a hot lunch. After settling in and a short rest, head out for an afternoon game drive in the reserve.
Masai Mara is a photographer’s dream, especially in the golden afternoon light. Watch as elephants roam the plains, lions lounge in the shade, and cheetahs prowl the tall grasses. If you’re lucky, you may catch sight of a leopard resting in a tree or a pride of lions on the hunt. Birdwatchers will be thrilled by the 500+ species recorded in the area.
As the sun sets over the savannah, return to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight. Enjoy the evening around the campfire, swapping stories under the stars with the distant roar of lions in the background.
Overnight options:
- Mara Sopa Lodge
- Mara Rhino Tourist Camp
- Mara Leisure Camp (or similar, based on preference and budget)
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Sunrise Game Drive or Hot Air Balloon Safari – Return to Nairobi
Wake up early for a magical sunrise game drive when the bush comes alive with activity. This is one of the best times for wildlife viewing, as predators are still on the move and grazers begin their day. Capture those golden-hour photos and keep your eyes peeled for any animals you might have missed the day before.
Alternatively, you can book an optional hot air balloon safari—a breathtaking way to see the Masai Mara from above. Glide silently over the vast plains as animals roam below, then enjoy a champagne bush breakfast after landing.
Later in the morning, return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast, check out, and begin the drive back to Nairobi. On the way, there may be time for a brief visit to a local Maasai village, where you can learn about traditional culture and support the community through local crafts or guided tours.
Arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, marking the end of your quick but unforgettable Masai Mara safari.
