7 Day Best of Kenya Wildlife Safari

Today is dedicated to exploring Amboseli National Park from dawn until dusk. You’ll embark on two game drives: one in the early morning and another in the late afternoon. The morning game drive offers the best chance to see the park’s wildlife in action as animals are most active at dawn. Elephant herds, cheetahs, and gazelles are commonly spotted, all with the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.

In the afternoon, you can opt to visit a local Maasai village for a cultural experience where you’ll learn about the Maasai people’s traditional way of life, their customs, and their symbiotic relationship with the land. The village visit offers an authentic glimpse into one of Kenya’s most iconic tribes. Alternatively, continue your game drives and explore more of the park’s rich wildlife, including giraffes, hippos, and bird species such as the lesser flamingos.

After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on an en-route game drive as you make your way north to Lake Nakuru National Park. This scenic journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley, offering stunning views of dormant volcanoes, expansive savannahs, and scenic lakes like Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementeita.

Arrive in Lake Nakuru in the afternoon, and after checking into your accommodation, head out for a late afternoon game drive. Known for its incredible biodiversity, Lake Nakuru is a birdwatcher’s paradise, where you can spot over 450 species, including flamingos along the lake’s shores. The park is also home to the endangered white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, waterbucks, and elusive leopards.

After breakfast, you’ll begin your journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous safari destination. In the afternoon, head out for your first game drive in this legendary reserve. The Masai Mara is known for its high density of predators and prey, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and elephants. As you drive through the park, you’ll also witness the stunning savannah landscapes dotted with acacia trees and expansive grasslands. Be sure to keep your camera handy for photos of the iconic African wildlife in the wild.

Spend a full day immersed in the wild beauty of Masai Mara. With two game drives scheduled, you’ll have ample opportunities to explore the park’s diverse ecosystems, from its vast savannahs to the Mara River, home to hippos and crocodiles.

The morning game drive will give you the chance to spot some of the Mara’s big predators, including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, while the afternoon safari often brings more opportunities for sightings of elephants and giraffes. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a leopard or a wild dog.

Besides game viewing, the Mara is rich in birdlife, including eagles, vultures, and hornbills, so bring your binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching.

Start the day early with an optional hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (at additional cost).
