Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick-Up from Kigali and Scenic Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your guide will meet you at Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali and brief you about the trip ahead. You’ll then embark on a scenic drive southwest toward the Uganda-Rwanda border, crossing at either Cyanika or Katuna depending on your lodge location in Bwindi.
The journey takes you through Rwanda’s lush hills and into Uganda’s striking Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa” because of its misty valleys and terraced slopes.
Upon arrival in Bwindi, check in at your lodge, enjoy a freshly prepared meal, and relax as you take in the peaceful surroundings of the forest edge.
Drive time: Approximately 4 to 5 hours
Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Bakiga Lodge
Meals included: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Forest
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a comprehensive briefing on gorilla habituation. This is not your typical gorilla trek—it’s an all-day adventure that allows you to follow a group of semi-habituated mountain gorillas as researchers and trackers guide you through the forest.
During the trek, you may spot other wildlife such as black-and-white colobus monkeys, forest duikers, and a variety of colorful bird species. Once you locate the gorilla group, you’ll spend four unforgettable hours observing their behavior, social interactions, and daily routines. Unlike regular trekking, this experience lets you witness conservation work in action—including activities like identifying individuals, collecting samples, and naming new group members.
After your time with the gorillas, return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest and a hearty dinner.
Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Bakiga Lodge
