Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park – Equator Stop & Evening Game Drive
After an early breakfast at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, you’ll meet your driver-guide for a safari briefing before setting off on a scenic road trip to Lake Mburo National Park, located about 3–4 hours away. Along the way, you’ll stop at the iconic Uganda Equator for photos, local crafts, and a quick science experiment that shows how water swirls differently on each side of the equator.
Continue your journey through Masaka and the lush countryside of western Uganda, arriving at your lodge in time for a relaxing check-in and lunch. In the late afternoon, head out for your first game drive, where you may spot zebras, giraffes, impalas, bushbucks, eland, and even warthogs grazing in the golden light.
Accommodation Options: Rwakobo Rock Lodge & Mburo Safari Lodge
Drive Time: Approx. 3–4 hours
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise on Lake Mburo
Start your day with a hearty breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive in search of early risers in the park. Lake Mburo’s rolling savannahs, rocky outcrops, and acacia woodlands are a haven for many species, including slender mongoose, bush pigs, duikers, waterbucks, and monkeys swinging through the trees. The park is also the best place in Uganda to spot impalas and bush rats, species that are rarely seen elsewhere.
Return to the lodge for lunch and some downtime before your afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This peaceful boat ride offers a new perspective of the park as you float past hippos wallowing in the water, crocodiles, and a variety of wetland birds like African fish eagles, kingfishers, and pied wagtails. It’s a fantastic chance for photos and birdwatching.
Accommodation Options: Rwakobo Rock Lodge & Mburo Safari Lodge
Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 3: Walking Safari & Return to Kampala or Entebbe
On your final morning, lace up your walking shoes for a guided walking safari—one of the most exciting ways to explore Lake Mburo. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you’ll walk through the bush and get an up-close look at wildlife without the hum of a vehicle. Expect to come face-to-face with zebras, giraffes, impalas, and possibly herds of the majestic Ankole long-horned cattle, a cultural icon of southwestern Uganda.
After the walk, return to the lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. You’ll have a stop for lunch en route and arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your 3-day safari adventure.
