Your adventure begins after an early breakfast as your guide picks you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. After a short briefing, set off on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda, known as the “Switzerland of Africa.”
Along the way, you’ll stop at the Equator in Kayabwe, where you can pose for the classic photo moment and browse local craft shops for unique souvenirs. Continue your journey through the rolling hills, tea plantations, and banana farms of the Ankole region, with a relaxing lunch stop in Mbarara town.
As you ascend into the Kigezi Highlands, the landscape becomes more dramatic with terraced hills and mist-covered forests—a beautiful preview of the experience that awaits. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Natioal Park
Today is the highlight of your safari—the gorilla trekking expedition. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You’ll be placed in a small group (maximum 8 people) and led into the forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are that day, but every step is worth it. The forest is alive with birdsong, the rustling of monkeys in the trees, and the cool air of a true jungle. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing them in their natural habitat—watching them feed, play, groom each other, and interact in deeply human-like ways. It’s a powerful, emotional, and unforgettable experience.
After the trek, return to the lodge and in the afternoon, you have the option to visit the Batwa community—the original forest dwellers who now live outside the park. Hear their stories, music, and traditions, or simply unwind and soak in the views from your lodge.
