Why Choose the Gorilla Habituation Experience Over Regular Gorilla Trekking?
Gorilla trekking is a magical experience, but gorilla habituation is something else entirely. Conducted exclusively in the Rushaga sector of southern Bwindi, this adventure allows you to join a team of rangers and researchers as they interact with semi-habituated gorillas, helping them slowly get used to the presence of humans.
You’ll likely visit the Bikingi group, which includes around 14 individuals – mothers, juveniles, silverbacks, and playful youngsters. For four hours, you’ll watch their behavior, observe their feeding routines, and witness the subtle dynamics within the troop. Unlike regular trekking, which is often fast-paced, habituation allows time to observe, photograph, and understand.
Only four visitors per day are allowed to join this experience – making it one of the most exclusive primate encounters in Africa.

How to Secure Gorilla Habituation Permits in Uganda
Due to the extremely limited number of daily permits, securing a spot requires advanced planning and expert coordination. That’s where we come in.
Trek Africa Expeditions handles the full process of booking your gorilla habituation permits with the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Simply tell us your preferred travel dates and we’ll check availability on your behalf. Once confirmed, we’ll send you an invoice to pay the permit fee — USD $1500 per person — which includes park entrance, professional guides, and four hours with the gorillas.
Because permits are limited and high in demand, we recommend booking at least three to six months in advance, especially for travel during Uganda’s peak seasons: June–September and December–February.
