Timing Your Gorilla Encounter:

The best time to visit the Gorillas is during the dry season, spanning from May to early October and then from December to January. During these months, the forest grounds are less slippery, offering trekkers a more stable terrain to explore. For budget-conscious travelers, the low season from February to April and November holds its own charm, as some accommodation facilities offer discounted room rates. However, please note that Gorilla encounters are possible throughout the year.

Understanding Gorilla Permit Costs:

Gorilla permit prices vary between countries. In Rwanda, Gorilla permits are priced at USD 1500 per person per trek, while in Uganda, the cost differs for foreign non-residents (USD800), foreign residents (USD700), and East African residents (UGX 300,000) per person per trek, as of now. To secure your Gorilla permit, it’s advisable to book 3-4 months in advance, as the high demand makes last-minute bookings less likely, especially for Uganda permits due to their lower cost compared to Rwanda.

Age Limit for Gorilla Trekking:

There is a strict age limit of fifteen (15) years for all Gorilla trekking destinations. Regardless of physical appearance or capabilities, travelers below the age of fifteen (15) are not permitted to trek with the mountain Gorillas. This age limit is enforced to ensure the safety of both travelers and the Gorillas inhabiting the jungle. However, if a child is approaching the age of fifteen, a parent can sign an agreement, assuming full responsibility for any eventualities during the trek. This agreement must be written, signed by the parent, and submitted to the Uganda Wildlife Authority or Rwanda Development Board for confirmation.

Gorilla Habituation Experience:

For an extraordinary adventure, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience, granting you four (4) hours in the company of researchers and park rangers alongside the mountain Gorillas. This exclusive encounter is limited to a maximum of four (4) participants, intensifying the experience. Rushaga, the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, is the only area where Gorilla Habituation Experiences are conducted. A permit for this unique adventure is priced at USD 1500 per person per trek.

Seamless Rwanda-Uganda Gorilla Safaris:

Discover the convenience of trekking mountain Gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi National Park from Kigali, Rwanda. In recent times, Rwanda-Uganda Gorilla safaris have become increasingly popular, allowing travelers in Rwanda to effortlessly cross borders and embark on Gorilla treks in Uganda. Arriving at Kigali International Airport, you’ll enjoy a scenic 4-5 hour drive to Bwindi Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks via the Gatuna or Cyanika border posts. This significantly shortens the journey compared to the 8-9 hour drive from Entebbe or Kampala in Uganda. Contact Trek Africa Expeditions today to book your Gorilla safaris in Uganda, as well as other enriching activities in Uganda and Rwanda.
