Serengeti National Park – Home of the Great Migration

Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s crown jewel and one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations. Renowned for the awe-inspiring Great Wildebeest Migration, this vast savannah landscape teems with wildlife including zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and cheetahs.

Why Visit Serengeti?

Each year, from June to October, over 1.5 million wildebeests and thousands of zebras migrate across the Serengeti plains into Kenya’s Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing. It’s a life-and-death journey with dramatic river crossings, where predators like lions, hyenas, and crocodiles await.

August and September are ideal for witnessing this spectacle, especially the thrilling river crossings. When the rains return in late October, the herds begin their return journey to the southern Serengeti and the Ngorongoro plains.

Serengeti offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget and travel style:

Tarangire National Park – The Land of Giants

Just a few hours from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets. It’s known for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab trees, creating a uniquely picturesque safari setting.

What Makes Tarangire Special?

Tarangire hosts the highest density of elephants in Tanzania. You can spot herds of up to 300 elephants alongside zebras, wildebeests, impalas, buffaloes, and the elusive fringe-eared oryx.

Don’t Miss the Ancient Baobabs

These striking trees aren’t just beautiful—they’re steeped in legend. Locals say baobabs once walked the earth but were punished by the gods for their arrogance and planted upside-down with their roots in the air.

What to See at Lake Manyara

The park’s ecosystem includes groundwater forests, grassy floodplains, and woodlands, making it a haven for over 400 bird species and a wide variety of wildlife. Keep an eye out for elephants, hippos, baboons, and the park’s signature tree-climbing lions.
