We’ll check availability with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and, if permits are available for your desired dates, we’ll send you an invoice. Once we receive your payment, we’ll confirm your permit and provide you with a booking ID to ensure your spot.
Knowing the cost of the gorilla trekking permit is a key factor in determining the overall cost of your gorilla tour to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southern part of Uganda, bordering Congo. It is home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it one of the best places in the world for gorilla trekking.
The park is divided into several sectors where trekking is available:
-
Rushaga
-
Buhoma
-
Ruhija
-
Nkuringo
Each sector has different habituated gorilla families that are available for trekking. Gorilla families are led by a dominant male, known as a Silverback. When trekking, you’ll be accompanied by park rangers and guides who will help you locate the gorillas and ensure your safety.
Permits are limited to 8 people per family per day to help conserve the gorillas and reduce human impact on their habitat. It’s important to note that only 8 visitors are allowed to trek each habituated gorilla family per day.
The Trekking Experience
Your trek begins early in the morning, typically around 7:00 am, with a briefing on safety guidelines and the rules for interacting with the gorillas. After the briefing, you’ll embark on your trek, accompanied by guides and trackers. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll have one hour to observe them as they move, feed, and interact with their group.
Age Requirements and Health Guidelines
To participate in gorilla trekking in Uganda, you must be at least 12 years old. This policy is in place to ensure that trekkers can handle the physical challenges of the trek and to minimize the risk of transmitting diseases to the gorillas.
