Detailed Itinerary for 18-Day Budget Kenya Tanzania, Rwanda & Uganda Safari Holiday

Day 1: Arrival in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Upon your arrival, a representative from Trek Africa Expeditions will warmly welcome you at the airport. After the reception, you will be transferred to your hotel. If time permits, a visit to the Giraffe Center or a Nairobi city tour can be arranged. Rest and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve

After a hearty breakfast, embark on an awe-inspiring drive through the Great Rift Valley, with a lunch stop in Nanyuki town. Continue the journey to Masai Mara National Reserve. Depending on the time, you may enjoy an evening game drive or visit a Masai village. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Masai Mara National Reserve

With picnic boxes in hand, venture into Masai Mara National Reserve for a full day game drive. Search for predators like leopards, hyenas, lions, and cheetahs, as well as other wildlife like wildebeests, giraffes, elephants, and zebras. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed during the peak of the day, with more game drives in the afternoon. Return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Serengeti National Park

Early breakfast precedes the journey from Masai Mara to the renowned Serengeti National Park, the starting point of the Great Wildebeest Migration. Handover to a Tanzanian guide for a seamless transition. The drive may be long, but game viewing begins upon entering Serengeti.

Day 5: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, experience a full day game drive in the famous Ndutu area, known for wildebeest calving season in February and March. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the plains and return to the lodge for a short nap. Evening relaxation at the lodge.

Day 6: Drive to Kigali International Airport

Drive to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to Kigali International Airport in Rwanda. A Trek Africa Expeditions representative will meet you upon arrival and transfer you to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Start the day with breakfast before departing for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Enroute, explore Nyanza Kings Palace and Thermographic Museum in Butare. Arrive at Nyungwe for an overnight stay, preparing for the chimpanzee trekking experience.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience in Cyamudongo

Embark on an early morning chimpanzee trek in Cyamudongo, starting at 4:30 am. Meet park rangers at Gisakura park station and trek on foot to locate chimpanzees. Spend an hour observing these incredible primates. After lunch, drive to Uwinka for a canopy walk. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 9: Drive to Lake Kivu for Relaxation

Enjoy a leisurely morning at the lodge before driving to Lake Kivu’s Karongi beach zone. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake and take a scenic sundowner boat cruise. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 10: Experience Coffee Tour on Lake Kivu

An early morning drive to Gisenyi leads to a boat cruise to Nyamirundi Island. Here, experience a crop-to-cup coffee tour, learning about harvesting and processing coffee beans. Return to Gisenyi for relaxation at the lodge.

Day 11: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After a relaxed breakfast, drive to Lake Mutanda, offering stunning views of the Virunga mountain ranges. Check-in at the lodge and take an evening boat cruise to explore the islands on the lake. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Depending on Gorilla permit availability, trek gorillas in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The day begins with a drive to the park station, briefing on trekking rules, and spending one hour close to the Gorillas. Transfer to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 13: Drive to Fort Portal

After breakfast, drive to Fort Portal, the adventure city of western Uganda. Explore the area’s largest concentration of crater lakes with an evening walking safari. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 14: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Start the day with breakfast and embark on a scenic drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. The park is home to chimpanzees, shoebill storks, and the powerful Murchison Falls. Enjoy the lodge and an overnight stay.

Day 15: Full Day Game Drive in Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, drive to the Nile Delta for the highest concentration of wildlife during the dry season. Return to the lodge for lunch and take a launch cruise to the waterfall in the afternoon. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 16: Drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino Tracking

Day 17: Rhino Tracking and Drive to Entebbe

Day 18: Shoebill Tracking – Onward International Flight Out

After breakfast, transfer to Nakiwongo Landing site for a boat ride to Mabamba Swamp, home to the elusive shoebill stork. Enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Victoria and its shores. Return to the lodge and prepare for your onward international flight.
