Booking Gorilla Permits Worldwide – This comprehensive guide to gorilla booking equips you with essential information for securing gorilla permits from the comfort of your home country. The availability of gorilla permits for trekking depends on the specific location chosen for the trek. Given that a valid gorilla permit is essential for guaranteeing a gorilla trekking experience, it is highly recommended to secure and book permits well in advance. Gorilla trekking is a thrilling adventure offered in three East African countries: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Clients have the flexibility to choose the perfect destination for their gorilla trek, and Trek Africa Expeditions specializes in gorilla trekking experiences in Uganda and Rwanda.
For those interested in gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda, the two national parks in Uganda—Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga National Park—offer opportunities. Alternatively, you can directly book permits online through the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Scanned copies of your permit and payment receipts will be emailed to you before your travel to Africa.
Uganda gorilla permits can be reserved well in advance before the June 30, 2020 deadline, after which permit prices are expected to increase. Rwanda’s gorilla permits are relatively expensive compared to Uganda and the DRC.
It’s important to note that the gorilla permit fees cover park entry fees for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, services of an English-speaking guide during the trek, and one hour with the gorillas in their natural habitat. However, accommodation, meals, and transport to and from the park are not included.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is divided into four sectors: Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Buhoma. Gorilla trekking occurs in these sectors, and each sector has habituated gorilla families. The park issues a maximum of 162 permits for gorilla trekking daily, with permits booked per sector based on availability.
Mgahinga National Park, situated on the border of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DR. Congo, hosts only one gorilla habituated family—Nyakagezi. Uganda Wildlife Authority issues only 8 gorilla permits for trekking in Mgahinga National Park daily.
Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda accommodates 20 gorilla families, with 10 available for gorilla trekking. Rwanda Development Board issues a total of 80 gorilla permits daily for visitors to trek the gorillas.
