Lake Mburo National Park invites all visitors to embark on guided nature walking safaris, always accompanied by an armed park ranger guide. Starting from Rwonyo, the park center, these guided walks lead you to the salt lick, considered one of the best places to encounter numerous wildlife species.
Lake Mburo boasts an impressive array of wildlife, including 68 mammal species and 350 bird species concentrated in this compact park. With a burgeoning giraffe population and a thriving hippo community, you’ll be astonished by the wealth of wildlife this small park holds. We strongly recommend taking an optional boat ride to observe crocodiles and enjoy prime birdwatching opportunities on the water. Please note that while we do not have a safari vehicle onsite, we can assist in arranging transportation if you do not have your own vehicle; this is subject to availability.
Lake Mburo stands out as one of the best places to search for nocturnal wildlife, such as the elusive leopard, porcupine, white-tailed mongoose, and the enchanting sounds of hyenas, zebras, buffalos, and bush babies.
Lake Mburo National Park offers a unique game viewing experience: horseback riding amidst the wild. This captivating activity sets Lake Mburo apart from other national parks in Uganda. Conducted at Mihingo Lodge under the guidance of trained staff and park rangers, the horseback ride in Lake Mburo can last from 1 to 3 hours, allowing you to explore the savannah’s beauty while viewing wild game.
Fishing is another popular tourism activity at Lake Mburo. The lake is home to six fish species, with tilapia being the most commonly caught. Other species include catfish, lungfish, tiger fish, Angara fish, and barbell. Mazinga is the primary fishing spot at Lake Mburo. Tourists interested in a fishing safari must bring their own equipment and obtain access permits from Uganda Wildlife Authority.
A must-try activity in Lake Mburo National Park is a boat cruise, offering breathtaking views of the park’s remarkable flora and fauna. Encounter wildlife such as crocodiles, hippos, and an array of bird species, including African fish eagles, pelicans, kingfishers, herons, cormorants, rare African finfoot, and hammerkops.
