Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers an unforgettable opportunity to see endangered Mountain Gorillas up close in the wild. Bwindi is home to more than half of the world’s remaining population of these gentle giants, making it one of the most important gorilla conservation areas on the planet.
The park is divided into four main trekking sectors:
Each sector offers a similar gorilla trekking experience, and all treks begin with a pre-trek briefing at 7:00 AM, followed by a guided hike into the forest to track a specific gorilla family. Once the gorillas are located, visitors are allowed to spend one unforgettable hour in their presence.
Because gorillas share about 95% of their DNA with humans, the encounter feels incredibly intimate and emotional.
To ensure the gorillas’ safety and well-being, only 8 visitors per group are allowed per day. Trekking is open to those aged 15 and above. With strict conservation policies in place, Bwindi is one of the safest and most successful gorilla trekking destinations in the world.

When Is the Best Time to See Primates in Bwindi?
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is possible year-round, but the best time to visit is during the drier months:

These months have less rainfall, making forest trails easier to navigate. However, some travelers prefer the rainy season, when gorillas tend to stay closer to the trails due to an abundance of food. The wetter season also brings lush greenery and fewer tourists.
Whichever season you choose, it’s essential to book your gorilla permit in advance, especially during peak months, as permits are limited and in high demand.
How to Get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
There are several ways to access Bwindi depending on your budget and travel preferences:
By Road
Bwindi is about 9–10 hours by car from Kampala or Entebbe. The drive is scenic and includes stops at the Equator, Mbarara town for lunch, and various viewpoints along the way. We use comfortable 4×4 vehicles with experienced driver-guides to ensure your safety and comfort.
By Air
You can also fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to either Kisoro or Kihihi Airstrip, which serve Bwindi. Flights take 1–2 hours, followed by a short drive to your lodge. Both scheduled and charter flights are available depending on your itinerary and budget.
Via Rwanda
Alternatively, you can fly into Kigali International Airport in Rwanda and drive across the border via Cyanika or Katuna. The journey takes 4–5 hours, including border clearance. This is a popular route for visitors combining Uganda and Rwanda, especially with an East African Tourist Visa (USD 100), which allows multiple entries into Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda.
