The 7 Day Highlights of Rwanda Safari takes you on a lifetime adventure with wonderful wildlife encounters. You will track Gorillas, chimpanzees and along the way catch a glimpse of monkeys, and baboons in Rwanda’s famous parks. Trekking deep into the forests of Nyungwe Forest and Volcanoes National Park in search of the endangered mountain gorillas and the mischievous chimpanzees, cross Canopy Walkway and kayak on Lake Kivu alongside traversing Kigali city.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Kigali City tour
On arrival you will be picked by your driver guide and check into the hotel for refreshment and lunch. After which you will head out for a Kigali city tour escorted by our representative to visit the bustling local markets and the Caplaki craft co-operative where you’ll find local craftsmen in wooden huts selling handicrafts, including jewelry, paintings, batik, fabrics, wood carvings, traditional masks, baskets, bags, scarves and beading.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast you’ll be driven through spectacular scenery to Nyungwe National Park through the winding mountains of southwestern Rwanda. The rain forest within the park is home to chimpanzees and monkeys, plus an abundance of bird life and butterflies.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Enjoy an early breakfast and later be dropped off at the park headquarters where you will be briefed before you head out into the jungle on a guided hike through the dense forest of Nyungwe National Park to track chimpanzees.
You will also have a walk on the Canopy Walkway – a 200 meter bridge suspended between giant trees, 50 meters above the forest offering incredible views of the upper canopy. The canopy is the best way to spot birds, wildlife and butterflies that are found in the forest.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu
With an early breakfast you will set out to the beautiful white sandy shores of Lake Kivu. Here you can relax on the stunning palm fringed beaches, kayak on the calm waters of the lake, take a boat tour to the nearby islands or coffee and banana plantations, hike in the surrounding hills or visit Imbabazi Orphanage.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll drive from Lake Kivu to Volcanoes National Park, a four hour drive passing through breathtaking scenery. On arrival at your accommodation you’ll enjoy a refreshment, take a swim a relax as you await tomorrow’s adventure

Day 6: Gorilla Tracking/Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast you’ll head to the park headquarters at Kinigi where you will be briefed. Later head out into the foothills of the Virungas, in Parc National des Volcans where you’ll begin your trek. Your guide and tracker will lead you deep into the forest in search of your allocated gorilla family. Your trek could last from 30 minutes to eight hours depending on the exact location of the specific gorilla family which you’re tracking.
When you meet the gorillas you’ll have the chance to spend up to one magical hour quietly observing them as they continue to go about their daily lives feeding and interacting with each other.

Day 7: Departure
You will depart from Volcanoes National Park back to Kigali, where you’ll have an opportunity to visit the Genocide Memorial, a centre that holds memories of those who were killed during the 1994 genocide.
