Day One: Arrival in Kigali International Airport and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, our driver/guide will greet you. Your adventure begins with a complimentary tour of Kigali City, known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Explore interesting spots, including the craft market, Gisozi Genocide Memorial site, and Kigali museum. Following this, you’ll depart for Ruhengeri, Rwanda’s second-largest town, surrounded by the stunning backdrop of the Virunga Mountains. Arriving late afternoon, you’ll check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day Two: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

An early start on day two sees you heading to the National Park headquarters to meet your ranger guides. After completing necessary park formalities, embark on the adventure of a lifetime: tracking mountain Gorillas. Once you locate them, you’ll have the privilege of spending one hour observing these magnificent creatures. How to Reach Volcanoes National Park?

Located in the village of Musanze, formerly known as Ruhengeri, Volcanoes National Park is easily accessible by public transport from Gisenyi, Kigali City, or Kigali International Airport. The drive to the park typically takes 2-3 hours, allowing for same-day Gorilla tracking and a return journey to Kigali. To ensure a timely start to your Gorilla trek, it’s essential to arrive at the National Park headquarters in Kinigi by 7:00 am. However, please note that there is no public transport from Musanze to the National Park headquarters in Kinigi.

Best Time to Embark on Exclusive Rwanda Gorilla Tours

Rwanda offers year-round opportunities for Gorilla tracking. However, the best times to visit are during the drier seasons, spanning from December to early March and from June to September. December to March constitutes an extended dry season, with temperatures occasionally reaching 29 degrees Celsius. Conversely, the months of March to mid-May and July to September are characterized by rainy weather.

The dry season is particularly favorable for Gorilla tours, as there is minimal rain during treks and the rainforest terrain is more conducive for hiking. While the weather is generally pleasant during these months, it’s advisable to carry waterproof clothing due to the unpredictable nature of Rwanda’s Equatorial climate.
