Trip Overview: Congo Brazzaville Adventure
Day 1: Arrival in Brazzaville – Mikhael Hotel (or similar)
Your adventure begins upon arrival at Maya-Maya Airport in Brazzaville, where your guide will meet you and assist with formalities. From there, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your arrival time, you can either relax and unwind from your journey or enjoy a PM sightseeing tour of Brazzaville.
Day 2: Brazzaville to Lésio-Luna Gorilla Sanctuary – Brazzaville (Mikhael Hotel or similar)
Start the day early as we depart for the Lésio-Luna Gorilla Sanctuary, located in the heart of lush forest about a 3-hour drive from Brazzaville. The route offers stunning views as we pass through vibrant villages, majestic rainforest, and occasional patches of savannah. Along the way, you’ll see rivers and streams, many of which are tributaries of the mighty Congo River.
At the sanctuary, you’ll have the chance to see Western Lowland Gorillas up close and even take a boat ride on the crystal-clear Blue Lake. This serene lake is home to hippos (if you’re lucky) and is surrounded by beautiful wildlife. The sanctuary houses 55 gorillas, cared for by the local community, NGOs, and the Congolese government.
After a fascinating day with the gorillas, we’ll return to Brazzaville in the evening.
Day 3: Brazzaville – Stanley Pool – Brazzaville (Mikhael Hotel or similar)
Today is packed with exciting activities, beginning with a boat ride to Stanley Pool in the morning. We’ll explore the majestic Congo River, visiting several islands, including M’bamou Island, Faignond Island, Falaise Du Douvre Island, and the riverside village of Manguenguengue. The Malebo Pool, also known as Stanley Pool, is a breathtaking natural wonder, once named after the explorer Henry Morton Stanley. The pool is famous for its stunning sandbanks, channels, and vibrant local fishing communities.
In the afternoon, we’ll return to Brazzaville for a city tour, offering a deeper insight into the culture and history of this vibrant capital.
Day 4: Brazzaville to Pointe Noire – Atlantic Palace Hotel (or similar)
After breakfast, you’ll take a short domestic flight to Pointe Noire, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a road trip through the Slave Road to the Kouilou region, just an hour from Pointe Noire. Here, we’ll visit the stunning Diosso Gorges, dramatic pink cliffs surrounded by lush forests and rich birdlife.
We’ll also explore the ethnographic museum, which showcases the history of the Kingdom of Loango, from the era of slavery to modern times. The museum is set in a peaceful area, surrounded by palm trees and dense rainforest. After the visit, we’ll return to Pointe Noire and spend the night at your hotel.
Day 5: Explore Pointe Noire and Return to Brazzaville (or travel to Gabon if it’s Sunday)
On the final day of your Congo Brazzaville adventure, we start by exploring the coastal city of Pointe Noire, the economic capital and second-largest city in the country. Our sightseeing tour of Pointe Noire includes a visit to key landmarks such as the Grand Marché, post office, port, and the historic railway station, which is a significant part of the Congo-Ocean Railway. We’ll also visit the newly opened museum, the cathedral, and the vibrant handicraft market.
In the afternoon, we’ll return to the hotel for check-out, before transferring to the airport for the domestic flight to Brazzaville, which takes approximately one hour. Canadian Airways Congo operates daily flights between Pointe Noire and Brazzaville, with the last flight departing around 4:00 PM.
Upon arrival in Brazzaville, you can proceed with your airport check-in for your connecting flight home. Alternatively, if you’re not flying out immediately, you may want to arrange for return tickets from Pointe Noire to your home country.
