Before booking a gorilla safari, it is important to understand what is included and excluded in the tour package. This will help you identify any additional costs that you may need to pay. Gorilla trekking can only be done in three countries worldwide, namely Uganda (the Pearl of Africa), Rwanda (the Country of a Thousand Hills), and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Trek Africa Expeditions specializes in offering gorilla tour holidays in only three East African countries, Uganda and Rwanda. However, due to security concerns, Trek Africa Expeditions has suspended its operations to Democratic Republic of Congo. You can book a gorilla tour to see mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park with Trek Africa Expeditions.
To witness mountain gorillas in their natural habitats in Uganda or Rwanda, a minimum of three days is recommended if you fly through Entebbe International Airport, and two days if you fly through Kigali International Airport. If you’re staying in Kigali/Ruhenjeri (Rwanda) or Kabale/Kisoro (Uganda), a one-day gorilla tour is an option.
Book a short gorilla excursion with Trek Africa Expeditions and expect the following to be included in your gorilla tour with us:
Expert pre-tour advice is included in every gorilla tour booked through Trek Africa Expeditions. Upon contact, we’ll assign you a professionally trained and experienced safari consultant. They’ll guide you through everything you need to know before making a booking, including what’s included in a gorilla tour, the best time for your safari, and detailed information about gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda.
Your consultant will also provide you with a quote tailored to your interests, budget, and schedule. They’ll work with you until you confirm and embark on your gorilla tour in Uganda or Rwanda. At Trek Africa Expeditions, we take pride in providing personalized and knowledgeable advice to ensure you have a well-planned and memorable gorilla tour experience.
Accommodation is a key aspect of a gorilla tour, and we ensure it’s included in the cost of your 2-day or 3-day tour to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Volcanoes National Park in Uganda and Rwanda, respectively. We recommend booking one or two nights for the following reasons. Gorilla trekking starts early in the morning, so it’s advisable to book accommodation close to the starting point. This means you should plan to arrive at the park the day before to spend a night near the headquarters.
All Trek Africa Expeditions gorilla tours include accommodation for one or two nights near Bwindi, Mgahinga and/or Volcanoes National Park. Pre-tour accommodation is important to ensure you start your tour on time, and we also recommend post-trek accommodation as the exact time of return from the trek is unknown. A gorilla trek hike can take anywhere from 30 minutes to half a day, so booking a night at a lodge near Bwindi or Volcanoes and flying out the next day is advisable.
Upon contact, we’ll make sure your accommodation is included in your gorilla tour booking with us.
Trek Africa Expeditions ensures smooth travel to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga National Park and Volcanoes National Park by including transport in our gorilla tours. Our experienced team will handle airport transfers, transfers to the gorilla trekking trailhead, and transport within the parks for your convenience. Choose from our fleet of 4×4 RAV 4, Customized Safari Vans, or top-end 4×4 Jeeps/Land Cruisers, depending on your budget. Charter or scheduled flights to Bwindi are also available for those who prefer to fly. Our team will arrange transfers from the airport to the lodge and from the lodge to the park headquarters for a hassle-free experience.
When you book a gorilla tour with Trek Africa Expeditions, you can expect an expert and professional driver guide to accompany you throughout the tour. This guide will not only provide transportation, but also share their wealth of knowledge on Uganda’s history, flora, fauna and culture. Our guides are trained in defensive driving and certified by the Uganda Safari Guides Association, ensuring you have a safe and informative tour experience. During gorilla trekking and forest walks, the driver guide will hand over to park ranger guides. Book with us and benefit from our included, knowledgeable driver guide.
Trek Africa Expeditions will take care of obtaining your gorilla permit as part of your gorilla tour package. In Uganda, a gorilla permit costs USD800 while in Rwanda it costs USD1500 per person per trek. If you want to spend four hours with mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, there is a special permit called the “Gorilla Habituation Experience” that costs USD1500. When you book with us, we will verify availability and secure your permit for your gorilla trek in either Bwindi or Volcanoes National Park. The permit covers park entrance fees, a 1-hour visit with habituated mountain gorillas, and the services of a trained ranger guide.
