How Much Does It Cost to Visit Lake Mburo National Park?
March 31, 20251 Day Rwenzori Mountain Climbing Adventure
Embark on an unforgettable 1-day Rwenzori Mountain Climbing experience, taking you to the stunning Rwenzori Mountains—the largest mountain range in Africa. Stretching over 120 kilometers long and 65 kilometers wide, this majestic range reaches an altitude of up to 5,109 meters above sea level, making it the highest mountain in Uganda and the third highest in Africa. Known as the “Mountains of the Moon”, the Rwenzori Mountains are often called the “snowy source of the Nile” by early explorers.
Located in Rwenzori Mountains National Park, which sits along the Uganda-Congo border, the park protects the highest sections of the mountain range. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a paradise for nature lovers. With 70 species of mammals and over 200 bird species, including 19 endemic Albertine Rift species, the park offers more than just a climb—it’s an opportunity to experience a rich diversity of wildlife.
Beyond the climb, you can explore local culture and participate in activities such as Bakono village walks, bird watching, and nature walks that introduce you to the region’s stunning beauty and the daily life of the local people.

Trekking with Trek Africa Expeditions: Your 1-Day Rwenzori Mountain Climb
Our treks are guided by a team of professional, supportive guides who are eager to share their knowledge and help you reach the summit. With expertise in first aid, flora and fauna, abseiling, and customer care, our guides make every trek an enriching experience. Most of our guides are local to the Rwenzori region, ensuring you get the most authentic experience.
We also provide porters who will assist you by carrying your luggage, allowing you to focus on enjoying the hike. Each porter can carry a maximum of 23 kg. We recommend bringing a big backpack for them to carry and a day pack for your personal essentials. Since the Rwenzori Mountains are typically wet, even during the dry season, we advise using backpack covers or polythene bags to protect your gear from moisture.
Meals and Accommodation During Your Trek
We believe that good food is essential to keep you strong and energized throughout the hike. Our trained guides prepare nutritious meals that are tailored to meet your dietary needs. If you have any food allergies, please inform us when booking, and we’ll ensure your meals are safe. Additionally, we encourage you to bring your favorite snacks, which can be a great motivator during the trek.
During the climb, all accommodation is provided in mountain huts equipped with bunk beds and mattresses. Due to the challenging conditions of building on the mountain, we cannot offer twin or single rooms, but we do our best to ensure the accommodations are as comfortable as possible. The top huts have wood stoves and solar power, creating a warm and cozy environment at night.
Hunwick’s and Kiharo camps even offer solar power with inverters, allowing you to charge your devices such as phones and cameras. Lower camps like Kiharo Camp and Samalira Camp also have solar power with inverters for charging.
Mandatory Insurance and Safety Measures
Insurance is mandatory for all participants. You should purchase insurance that covers medical evacuation (medivac) and emergencies at altitudes of 4,000 meters and above. Please note, no trek will depart without proof of insurance. We also recommend carrying insect repellent for added protection during the trek.
