A gorilla permit is an official card or document issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, granting the holder permission to spend one hour with the mountain gorillas in either Bwindi impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park. However, before booking a gorilla permit to see these magnificent creatures, several factors need to be considered. Questions such as when to book, how to book, which national park to choose, and others must be addressed before embarking on the process of obtaining a gorilla permit to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park.
Gorilla trekking is a thrilling adventure that takes place in four national parks across Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. This activity involves following a designated group of habituated mountain gorillas in their natural habitat within any of the four national parks. Once tourists locate the gorillas, they are allowed to spend an hour in their presence, observing their behaviors, taking photographs, and listening to the ranger’s commentary on the gorilla’s lifestyle. The duration of gorilla trekking can vary from 30 minutes to three-quarters of the day, depending on the location of the gorillas on that particular day. If you are considering a gorilla tour in Bwindi impenetrable national park or Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, obtaining a gorilla permit is a crucial step in the process. A gorilla permit is one of the three essential components required for gorilla trekking, and it includes three critical aspects that every tourist should know before considering other expenses.
A gorilla permit, issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, covers the following: one hour with a specific habituated mountain gorilla family in Bwindi or Mgahinga, park entry fees, services of a ranger guide, security during your trek, and a certificate upon completion of your trek.
However, bear in mind that the cost of gorilla permits does not cover accommodation, transportation, or meals. You will have to cater to these additional expenses. Trek Africa Expeditions offer all-inclusive gorilla safaris to Bwindi impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga, which includes gorilla permits, accommodation, and transportation to and from the park. Our website provides sample gorilla safaris that may interest you.
Securing Uganda gorilla permits for a visit to Bwindi or Mgahinga National Parks can be done in two ways. The first and easiest method is to book your gorilla permit through a registered and reputable tour operator. By choosing this option, you can avoid the hassle of checking availability, reserving, buying, and securing your gorilla permit. Trek Africa Expeditions is a trusted and credible tour operator that can handle all these details on your behalf. With years of success in organizing gorilla treks for our visitors, you can be confident in our ability to provide you with an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.
The second option for booking your gorilla permit is to contact the Uganda Wildlife Authority directly by phone or email. However, this approach can be quite challenging as the reservations department is often overwhelmed by the number of people who attempt to book permits directly. Getting a response may take a while, if at all. To avoid this frustration, we recommend that individuals interested in trekking mountain gorillas in Uganda contact reputable tour operators like Trek Africa Expeditions for assistance with securing gorilla permits.
Uganda is a popular destination for visitors who want to see mountain gorillas. But before booking your Uganda gorilla permit, it’s important to know when the best time is to secure one. Gorilla permits tend to sell out quickly, so booking in advance will guarantee your spot. We recommend booking your gorilla permit at least 4-5 months ahead of time, and some of our clients even book a year in advance.
The reason for this is that there is a high demand for Uganda gorilla permits from various sources, including Uganda tour operators, individuals, and international tour operators. This competition is due in part to the high cost of Rwanda gorilla permits, which are more than double the price of Uganda gorilla permits. Although the gorilla trekking experience is the same in both countries, many have opted for Uganda instead of Rwanda due to the cost difference, creating competition for Uganda gorilla permits.
To avoid disappointment, it’s best to book your gorilla permit well in advance. At Trek Africa Expeditions, we can help you secure your gorilla permit and ensure a smooth and enjoyable gorilla trekking experience.
Uganda Wildlife Authority allocates gorilla permits based on the regions within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi has four regions and available permits per region determine which region you can visit. If you choose Buhoma permits, you can trek gorillas in the northern part of the forest. If you choose Ruhija gorilla permits, you will encounter habituated gorilla families in the east. Rushaga or Nkuringo gorilla permits require a drive to the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Mgahinga National Park has only one gorilla family, so there are no issues with permit allocation.
Trek Africa Expeditions considers clients’ interests and physical conditions when booking gorilla permits. We strive to book permits that best suit our clients’ demands.
Choosing a specific gorilla family for your trekking experience is now possible. The process starts with booking your gorilla permit with the intention of visiting a particular region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. If you prefer a specific gorilla family located in Buhoma, make sure to instruct your tour operator to book a permit for that region. On the day of your trek, you can request to visit the gorilla family of your choice within that region. The Uganda Wildlife Authority strives to allocate gorilla families to visitors based on their interests and physical abilities. For more information on gorilla family allocation and the different families located in various regions of Bwindi, contact Trek Africa Expeditions.
If you have decided to embark on a gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, the next step is to secure your gorilla permit. To do so, you need to make a payment for the permit. Trek Africa Expeditions offers two modes of payment for gorilla permits – bank transfers and credit/debit card payments. However, please note that credit/debit card payments incur a 5% surcharge. Once you have agreed to the payment method, we will provide you with an invoice that includes our bank account details. After you make the payment, we request that you send us a proof of payment (POP) so that we can secure your gorilla permits using our credit. This is because it takes 2-3 working days for the funds to hit our bank account, and we don’t want to risk losing out on the permits, which are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you are considering trekking mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park, it is important to note that Uganda wildlife Authority has set an age limit for gorilla permits. The age limit for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years and above. Therefore, anyone below the age of 15 is not allowed to trek mountain gorillas or even book Uganda gorilla permits. It is advisable to confirm the age limit before planning a trip to Uganda with your children. However, in certain circumstances, children who are about to celebrate their 15th birthday may be allowed to trek gorillas. If your child is 14 years but strong enough, you can contact Trek Africa Expeditions for assistance.
A gorilla permit is a must-have document for anyone who wishes to trek mountain gorillas in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park. Unfortunately, these permits can easily get lost or misplaced, causing inconvenience to travelers. If you happen to lose your gorilla permit, it is essential to report to Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) immediately and present your receipt as evidence of purchase. UWA will assist you in obtaining a new gorilla permit card for a small fee.
Losing your gorilla permit on the day of trekking can be a stressful experience. However, if you book your gorilla permit through Trek Africa Expeditions, you can rest assured that they keep records of all receipts, scanned copies of permit cards, and IDs of each permit. In the event of a lost permit, Trek Africa Expeditions can provide assistance and help you obtain a new gorilla permit.
A gorilla permit is only valid for the date specified on it. If you are unable to use the permit on the day of trekking, you will forfeit it completely. In the event that you know in advance that you will not be able to trek the gorillas, you have two options. The first option is to reschedule your gorilla permit to another date or year. The second option is to resell it to another interested party. If you have booked a gorilla permit but are unable to use it, we can assist you in rescheduling or reselling it. However, it is important to note that there is no guarantee that UWA will allow you to reschedule or that you will be able to find someone to buy it. For further details on this, please contact us.
